Reasons Why You Should Buy Your Next Puppy From A Breeder

1. A breeder will likely have years of experience with their breed and will help you choose the best dog to fit your family, lifestyle and environment.

2. A breeder will help you through any issues that arise with training, health, food recommendations, etc.

3. A breeder will let you meet and interact with their adult dogs in order for you to make the best informed decision about your new puppy.

4. A breeder will be able to predict the general size and temperament of its puppies.

5. A breeder will stand behind the health and quality of their dogs and will take their puppies back anytime for any reason.

6. Breeders care for their puppies long before they are born. Breeders give their dogs the best prenatal care available to ensure your puppy is born healthy.

7. Breeders do not use emotional propaganda and guilt to manipulate your decisions. A breeder’s priority is to find the right family for their dogs and the right dog for your family.

8. By supporting breeders you will be supporting the conservation of quality pure breed dogs, bred for health, conformation and temperament. You will be supporting the availability of purebred dogs for future generations.

9. Despite the anti-breeders propaganda, most pure breed dogs are not inbred, breeders rarely inbreed their dogs (father to daughter, brother to sister breedings).  Some breeders use line-breeding in their breeding programs (grandpa or great-grandpa to granddaughter breedings) and they do this after giving thoughtful consideration to the health and wellbeing of the puppies.

10. Breeders socialize and take care of their puppies for the first 8 weeks; they know its parents and many of them do extensive health tests before breeding.

11. Commercial breeders have evolved their practices and the way they care for their dogs.
The old myth of substandard facilities is not a reality any longer. Commercial breeders are closely regulated by governmental organizations and they stand behind the quality of the dogs they breed.

12. Breeders spend uncountable hours and sleepless nights caring for your puppies. They give them love, stimulation and everything they need to have the best start in life.

13. By buying from established breeders who know their breed and are regulated by the government, you are reducing fraudulent rescues importing puppies from other states and countries, bringing new diseases and selling dogs from unknown lineages and untested temperaments.

14. You can only get this from a breeder. You will never find a well bred puppy at a shelter!

  1. Always buy your puppy dog companion and new family member from a breeder. Your home will be filled with joy, a well bred puppy will mend a broken heart and you will know the pup is safe, healthy and will not represent a danger to you your family and or friends. What could be better?

  2. Number 14 is complete horseshit. All this article does is contribute to the horrendous state of unwanted shelter dogs by telling people purebreds are the only way to go; a large proportion of shelter dogs are byproducts from the "dedicated" breeders. Finding a commercial breeder that is regulated is all well and good but to say that puppy mills are a myth and a thing of the past is complete bullshit and only works to invalidate other arguments in this list.

  3. Pet overpopulation has become a myth. In fact, we have a pet under-population that has shelters and rescues importing dogs from other states and other countries. Just recently, 36 Golden Retrievers were imported from Istanbul, Turkey, to Alpharetta, GA. Twenty-three (23) dogs from South Korea were imported for sale in the US. Every year over 100,000 dogs are imported from overseas where there are no regulations on vaccinations or quarantine for major illnesses. Pet overpopulation? Maine's Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is breeding dogs at both ends. Their underground network of foster homes in Maine produces a constant supply of puppies every Tuesday. Their fleet of Mercedes vans delivers truck loads of puppies every Wednesday and Thursday. These imported puppies are not saved from kill shelters in other states. These puppies are also bred in underground networks of foster homes. Every week these 56 day-old puppies fill the trucks; puppies that will be SOLD for $399 each. These puppies are being bred for Retail Rescue. Tell me again the myth of pet overpopulation!

  4. Great reply Kathy. You can't argue with facts, and the fact is, there is no pet overpopulation! Spuetering for decades=SHORTAGE! If there was indeed a crisis with dogs running wild, then as you clearly pointed out WITH facts, why are dogs being flown in by the several thousand every year? The blood is on the rescues hands then, as if they say they (foreign dogs) need 'saved' too, then they are responsible for the euthanized dogs here in the States. But they can't handle that, so let the propaganda continue and blame breeders. Yeah, that's the best approach....NOT
